The Lampert Institute offers funding opportunities for faculty research and scholarship closely related to the institute’s areas of intellectual inquiry.  Funding is available to support field work, archival work, dataset purchases, or other types of research support necessary to advance scholarly projects.

Applications

Lampert faculty grants will be awarded once a year in the spring. The 2025-26 awards will be for a period of 15 months from June 1, 2025 through August 31, 2026. Applications should be submitted to Chad Sparber by email. Awards will be limited by the number of meritorious applications received and the size of the budget. Submitted proposals should include the following:

  1. Cover page giving the title of the proposed project and the name of the applicant, along with department or office.
  2. Narrative description of the proposed study or event and the outcome you envision (published book, journal article or conference publication). Divide the narrative into sections for clarity and write for a non-specialist audience. The narrative part of your proposal should be no longer than 6 pages (double-spaced) plus bibliography and/or citations.
  3. A brief statement concerning how the proposed research or event relates to longer-term research or academic plans.
  4. Proposed budget that lists actual expense by category. The proposed budget must list actual expenses by category rather than approximate costs. Do not guess; consult suppliers' catalogs, travel agencies, and so forth. The budget requests should be explicitly justified and related to the proposed research plan. Use the budget form online at the Dean of the Faculty website and follow the allowable expenses within each category.
  5. Brief professional resume.
  6. List of previous grant support received from the Lampert Institute.

Applications for 2025-26 are due by 5 p.m. January 24, 2025.
