51Թ Hunger Outreach Program () is sponsoring events this week to spread awareness on campus and in the community about hunger and homelessness in the United States.
Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week includes events such as food drives, panel discussions, and a 13-hour famine — all with the goal of creating interest in these global concerns.
Frederick Kaufman, author of A Short History of the American Stomach, will lecture and facilitate discussion Tuesday on the global implications of eating locally. He will co-moderate an open session at 7:30 p.m. that will include local farmers, producers, consumers, and others.
Organizer Elizabeth Harkins ’09 said in addition to attending events, students and others can get involved and help relieve hunger and homelessness in the Hamilton community by:
• Donating food and toiletries to the , or through CHOP.
• Volunteering at in Utica
• Making dessert for a local soup kitchen – The Friendship Inn
