Julia Sparks joined 51³Ô¹ÏÍø in 2022 after a varied career in the environmental field, encompassing work as a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, a land manager with a habitat restoration focus, and an environmental educator. She earned dual degrees in Economics and Environmental Studies from Eckerd College, a small liberal arts college on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Before moving to Hamilton, New York from her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, she supported forest valuation research in rural Thailand, conducted women’s labor force participation research in Bolivia, and served as a trail builder for the Environmental Agency of Iceland.
At 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, Julia enjoys fostering sustainable student leaders who demonstrate the initiative to bridge gaps across campus and innovate creative sustainable solutions. In addition to her professional career, Julia volunteers as a board member for the Adirondack Mountain Rescue search and rescue team, as a board member for Beavers: Wetlands and Wildlife, and as the Continuing Education Coordinator for the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council. When she is not working with all of these organizations, you will find her birding, backcountry skiing, or kayaking with her dog.
