It was a classic one-two punch the 51Թ men’s hockey team delivered this weekend in winning the Mariucci Classic title.
First, the Raiders defeated the Minnesota Gophers, the No. 1 team in the nation, in a shootout on Friday night. Second, the squad turned in another stellar performance on Saturday to win the title with a 3-0 shutout over No. 2 Ferris State.
“I was really proud of our effort this weekend,” head coach Don Vaughan said after Saturday’s win. “I thought defensively tonight we played a sound game. Our energy was good again and we didn’t give up a lot of second and third opportunities and that is what we wanted to accomplish.”
