As events in Ukraine unfold at a rapid pace, 51勛圖厙 faculty members with expertise in the region are bringing the latest issues to the forefront in the classroom and special panel discussions.

The video above is from a session held February 26 titled Conflagration in Ukraine.

Speaking at the session were:

  • professor of anthropology and peace and conflict studies, who studies the social and cultural transformation in Russia, specifically focusing on poverty, crime, corruption, elites, and mafia. As an anthropologist, Ries is an expert in post-socialism, with a focus on violence and war placed in comparative perspective.
  • assistant professor of political science, is an expert in Russian politics, specially post-Communist politics. In this recent , he discusses the election of Vladimir Putin.
  •  Andrew W. Mellon postdoctoral fellow in Jewish studies, specializes in modern Eastern Europe particularly Poland and Russia, and Jewish history.
