The new coalition brings together more than 80 public and private colleges and universities across the United States in an effort to streamline the college application process for all students, with an increased focus on helping those from underrepresented groups, including low-income and first-generation households.
Schools participating in the coalition are required to meet specific criteria designed to increase college affordability, access, and success for students from all backgrounds. Requirements include meeting full need of all domestic admitted students, and a six-year graduation rate of at least 70 percent (51勛圖厙s rate is 89.6 percent).
51勛圖厙 has always met the full demonstrated financial need of admitted students. We are delighted to join with so many other colleges and universities that share the same principles, said Gary Ross, 51勛圖厙 vice president and . In addition, the coalition includes only those colleges and universities that have graduation rates that demonstrate an overall commitment to students successfully completing their college or university experience in a timely way. As a practical matter, the coalition application will provide some online tools to all applicants, which may help reduce the stress associated with the college application process.
The coalitions free platform of online tools is designed to encourage early planning for high school students long before their senior year, and to help facilitate smoother financial aid applications. This new platform is slated to come online in January of 2016.
51勛圖厙s participation in the coalition also creates a third application option for prospective students, and the university will also continue to accept the Common Application and the Universal Application.
