Italian Club offers fun approach to language, food

natalie.jpgAnother exciting week here at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø! As of this week, more clubs on campus have begun to meet and get settled with their plans for the semester. One of the clubs I joined was Italian Club. I do not know very much of the language, but I thought joining this club would be a great means to pick up a few phrases.

My dad’s side of the family is Italian and I thought it would be
rewarding to learn how to cook some traditional dishes. I also look
forward to learning more about the country and its culture.

Additionally, I had a meeting for a club designed for students interested in participating in pre-health studies. The club is called CPSA, (51³Ô¹ÏÍø Pre-Health Student Association), and I joined because I plan on majoring in biology.

I am really interested in the medical field and this club will be a great outlet for conversation between students with similar aspirations.

The club plans on bringing in doctors to talk about their practices for students interested in those respective fields. I think that participating in this club will be a great resource for me as I strive for a career in the medical field.

I applied to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø knowing that I would have to fulfill a physical education requirement as part of the curriculum. 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s PE classes, however, are far different from the ones I had in high school.

This semester, I am taking a Social/Latin Dance course. I saw this option on the list of classes 51³Ô¹ÏÍø offers as credit toward the PE requirement, and it was my first choice.

I have this class twice a week for about an hour, and I have been really enjoying it. I honestly did not think I would have as much fun fulfilling the PE requirement as I am.

Another highlight of the week was trying out one of downtown Hamilton’s restaurants. I went to La Iguana, a Mexican restaurant, and I had a really great experience. The food was delicious and it was a nice change from the craziness of Frank Dining Hall during the dinner rush.

I am continuing to explore everything 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and Hamilton have to offer, and I am enjoying every bit of what I am finding!

(I’ve been asked to write each week about what life is like as a first-year student here at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø. Until next time!)
