Men’s Lacrosse Opens Patriot League with 13-7 Win Over Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. ‘ The 51³Ô¹ÏÍø men’s lacrosse team defeated Lafayette, 13-7 on Saturday afternoon in Easton, Pa. With the win, the Raiders improve to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in Patriot League play while the Leopards fall to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.                                               

Sophomore Matt Saxon (Bethesda, Md.) scored an unassisted goal to start the game for the Raiders. The Leopards battled back with three unanswered goals before sophomore Jason Vasas (Fairport, N.Y.) ended the first period with a goal to cut the Lafayette lead to 3-2.

51³Ô¹ÏÍø exploded for six goals in the second to take an 8-5 halftime lead. Senior Nick Gerken (Wilton, Conn.) tallied his lone goal of the game; Vasas netted two goals, senior Peter Watts (Wayland, Mass.) scored his first of the game and freshman Robert Trasolini (New Hyde Park, N.Y.)  added two goals and one assist during the Raiders run.

Lafayette started the third period with a goal to cut the lead to 8-6, but 51³Ô¹ÏÍø answered with goals by freshman Reid Diamond (Brookline, Mass) and Watts to push the score back to 10-6.

The Raiders scored three goals in the final stanza as Vasas and Watts added one more goal each and sophomore Eddie Brennan (Hillsborough, Calif.) scored off a pass from Watts.

Freshman goalie Andrew Jarolimek (Silverthorne, Colo.) tallied nine saves while Lafayette’s Michael Koch saved 13.

The Raiders are back in action on Wednesday, April 2 when they host Hobart College on Tyler’s Field in Hamilton, N.Y. Face off is set for 7:00 p.m.
