'xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags' />HAMILTON, N.Y. ‘ The 51³Ô¹ÏÍø men’s track and field team took first at the Class of ’32 Invitational in 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s own Sanford Field House on Saturday. The Raiders scored 198 points, 18 more than second place SUNY Cortland. St. Lawrence took third with 123 points and Hamilton College was fourth with 65. Oneonta State, Union, Hartwick, SUNY Cobleskill, and the Cornell track club rounded out the field.
Freshman Andrew Moore (Atlanta, Ga.) finished second in the 55 meter dash in 6.67 seconds. Corey Stirpe (Halifax, Pa.), Dan Ellis (Pine Valley, N.Y.), and Aaron Brooks (New Hope, Pa.) placed fifth, sixth, and seventh respectively in the same race with times of 6.73, 6.74, and 6.81.
Will Arnold (Atlanta, Ga.) took first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.42 seconds. Dan Ellis was sixth in 23.76 seconds and Stirpe was 11th with a mark of 24.05. Brooks finished in 13th with a time of 24.62.
Mitch Sargent (Peachtree City, Ga.) was the Raiders lone competitor in the 400 meter dash placing third in 51.51 seconds. Freshman Geoffrey Bean (Oneonta, N.Y.) won the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:06.98. Luke Merkel (Arlington, Va.) was fourth in the 800 meters in 2:00.02. Teammate Greg Smith (LaGrange, Ill.) followed close behind in 2:03.61.
51³Ô¹ÏÍø dominated the 1,000 meter run with senior Louis DiNuzzo (Loudonville, N.Y.) taking the gold in 2:29.76. Mike Saunders (Albion, N.Y.) and John Gillespie (North Andover, Mass.) finished the race second and third respectively with times of 2:29.85 and 2:33.24.
Kyle Barrett (Troy, N.Y.) was second in the mile run in 4:24.05 and Ian Hill (West Hartford, Conn.) was sixth in 4:36.22. Four Raiders competed in the 3,000 meter run. Travis Brooks (River Forest, Ill.) was 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s top-finisher in eighth with a mark of 9:01.64. Nate Rosenthal (West Hartford, Conn.) finished close behind in ninth with a time of 9:04.71. Andrew Isabel (Andover, Mass.) was 17th in 9:44.00 and Patrick McDermott was 22nd in 10:13.00.
Freshman Michael Hanlon (Ann Arbor, Mich.) was fourth in the 5,000 meter run in 15:27.74. 51³Ô¹ÏÍø dominated the relays finishing first in the 4×400, 4×800, and the distance medley relay. Ethan Dodge (Chatham, N.Y.) finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 10’00.00 (3.05 meters).
Moore took first in the long jump with a mark of 21’10.25 (6.66 meters) and Alden Ellis (Singapore) was third with a leap of 20’05.00 (6.22 meters). Ellis also took second in the triple jump with a mark of 41’10.75 (12.77 meters). Moore was fourth jumping 40’09.00 (12.42 meters).
Waldemar Auguscinksi (Passaic, N.J.) won the shot put with a throw of 51’06.25 (15.70 meters). Stephen Salvantis (Shavertown, Pa.) was sixth throwing 43’06.50 (13.27 meters) and Lucas Meeker (Healsburg, Calif.) was seventh throwing 41’07.00 (12.67 meters). Dodge was 22nd with a throw of 30’01.00 (9.17 meters).
In the weight throw, Auguscinski placed second with a mark of 50’02.50 meters (15.30 meters), while Salavantis was eighth with a throw of 38’06.75 (11.75 meters). Meeker rounded out the field in 12th throwing 34’02.75 (10.43 meters).
The men are back in action next Saturday as they head to Boston University for the FasTrack Invitational set to begin at 2 p.m.
