I can’t believe it, this Monday, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø experienced a snow day!
This is a very rare occurrence, and I was shocked to wake up to the text that spelled out the unthinkable! The campus was in a frenzy, though the students felt relieved to have a bit more time to cram for midterms.
I was excited myself, because it gave me time to relax and catch up for the week!
My friends went to a talk on immigration by Nancy Foner, who wrote the highly acclaimed book, From JFK to Ellis Island: New York’s Two Great Waves of Immigration. Though I wasn’t able to attend due to a group meeting, I heard that she was very insightful.
This whole week I’ve been studying for my midterms and preparing for my trip to New York City. I’m so excited because I will be able to see my best friend and spend time in the city with her.
Not too long ago, I went on the Harlem Renaissance trip sponsored by the ALANA Cultural Center, so this won’t be my first time visiting the city but it will be the first time I can spend an extensive period of time there.
I am going to touch base with the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø alumni I met on the previous trip and see if I can get together with them for lunch or dinner.
As I said, I can’t wait. This weekend I will be headed off for my travel, but I will have much to say when I come back!
(I’ve been asked to write each week about what life is like as a first-year student here at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø. Until next time!)
