Women’s Lacrosse Falls 18-6 to #1 Princeton in Round One of the NCAA Tournament

Princeton, N.J. – The 51³Ô¹ÏÍø women’s lacrosse team dropped an 18-6 decision to #1 Princeton in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday night at The Class of 1952 Stadium. Katie McVeigh led the way for 51³Ô¹ÏÍø with three goals and an assist to finish the season with 73 points, fifth best all-time at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø.

 

The Tigers opened the game controlling the ball and scored the first five goals 17 minutes into the contest. Elizabeth Pillion scored twice while Kathleen Miller, Theresa Sherry and Ingrid Goldberg all scored once.

 

51³Ô¹ÏÍø bounced back, scoring on its first two shots, to cut the lead to 5-2. Amanda Bradshaw scored her 23rd goal of the season at the 12:27 mark to get the Raiders on the scoreboard.   McVeigh notched her 49th goal of the season at the 9:30 mark to pull the Raiders within three.

 

Princeton returned the favor with three goals of its own to close out the half and set the score at 8-2. Goldberg, Pillion and Lindsey Biles scored for the Tigers ending the frame.

 

Sophomore goalie Sue Bielamowicz stopped five shots in the half, while Sarah Kolodner turned aside two 51³Ô¹ÏÍø attempts.

 

The Tigers opened the second half with four straight goals to open a ten goal advantage, but 51³Ô¹ÏÍø would battle back as Kelly Winning scored off a pass from Katie McVeigh at the 21:17 mark to cut the lead to 12-3.

 

Sophomore Anne Coomber followed that with her 13th goal of the season from Bradshaw at 20:35, to slice the deficit to eight.

 

Princeton followed with six straight goals, including two more from Biles and Miller, and one from Sherry and Dobrosky to increase the lead to 18-4.

 

McVeigh added her 49th and 50th goals of the season to finish the game and set the final at 18-6.

 

The Raiders finish the season with a 13-7 record, the most wins since they were 13-3 in 1982. McVeigh finished the season with 128 career points, 10th best all-time at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø.
