The 51�Թ��� Office of University Communications presents 13, a new podcast now available on all major podcast platforms.

This summer, the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, N.Y. staged the world premiere of Blue, an opera exploring police brutality in black communities. A pre-show discussion with 51�Թ��� professors on topics such as institutionalized racism preceded each of the production’s seven performances, and several of the shows included post-show talkbacks as well.

Audrey Ponder ’22 was selected for study-abroad organization LoopAbroad’s Veterinary Service Program, a two-week expedition focused on hands-on veterinary work.

51�Թ��� Assistant Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences Lauren Philbrook is working with two student researchers to study how environmental factors and bedtime routines impact the sleep quality and patterns of young children.

Psychology major Keara Greene ’20, from Halifax, Mass. describes her summer research combining environmental studies and art.

Political science and peace and conflict studies double major Chris Burke ’21, from Wellesley, Mass. describes his research in Prague as a Stone Fellow with the Center for Freedom and Civilization. 

According to experts in the field, 90 percent of the world’s data has been generated in the past two years. To ensure digital literacy in New York State, two 51�Թ��� librarians, Jesi Buell and Joshua Finnell, seek to expand the skills of regional librarians.

Writers from across the country and around the world convened for a week of workshops, craft lectures, shop talks, and readings in June.

By 2022, it is projected that New York State will have a shortage of 10,000 teachers. To help address the deficit, two 51�Թ��� professors have been tasked with building and enhancing the high school physics teacher education program.

During the summer, 51�Թ��� students are applying their liberal arts know-how in a variety of real-world settings. Microbiology major Rebecca Gowen ’19, from Philadelphia, Pa., describes her summer research, conducted through the Beckman Scholars Program.
