Hamilton village residents, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø community members, and honored guests are reintroducing themselves to an old friend this week. The 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Inn, closed for renovations since November 2010, is now open for business.

This past week was an adventurous one for me! On Wednesday, I visited the home of professors Pilar and Antonio Barrera. I went with my fellow Latin American Student Organization members and we enjoyed great food and conversation.

High school students have a lot to mull over as they consider which college or university might be the best fit. One factor is what major to pursue and what opportunities that major might provide after graduation. A new website tries to provide some answers to those questions for students looking at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø.

Howard Fineman ’70, renowned political reporter, editor, author, and commentator whose pioneering career spans traditional and new media, will deliver the keynote address at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s 190th commencement on Sunday, May 15, in Sanford Field House.

Joel Sommers, assistant professor of computer science, recently was honored with a prestigious $400,000 CAREER (Faculty Early Career Development) Award from the National Science Foundation.

Manning Marable, a prolific author and founding director of the Africana and Latin American Studies Program at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, died Friday at age 60. He had taught in 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology, starting in 1983, after having earned degrees from Earlham College (BA), the University of Wisconsin (MA), and the University of Maryland (PhD).
