Ten 51�Թ��� students studying French accompanied Mahadevi Ramakrishnan, of the Department of Romance Languages, on an educational trip to the French island of Martinique during spring break 2011.

Patricia Hill Collins, a social theorist who studies race, gender, social class, work, and family, came to 51�Թ��� recently to deliver the annual W.E.B. and Shirley Graham DuBois Lecture, hosted by the Africana/Latin American Studies Department.

The 51�Թ��� Inn was officially dedicated during Homecoming weekend, though guests have been staying overnight, dining, entertaining, and enjoying the renovated historic inn for several months now.

This fall 12 members of 51�Թ���’s admission team spent a total of 276 staff days on the road. They visited 850 high schools in 41 states and 24 countries. They were asked — and they answered — every conceivable question about the admission and aid process.

Lyle Roelofs, who served as interim president and as provost and dean of faculty at 51�Թ���, has been named president of Berea College.

As a student, Mark Buttitta ’74 defended 51�Թ��� football’s line of scrimmage. As an alumnus, he still noted the passing of summer by counting off the weeks until practices would start at his alma mater.
